May 20: The Beach of Simultaneous Joy and Pain

Today we are still in the Emek Hefer area, which means "the Hefer Valley." It is so wonderfully pastoral here, with green fields and tropical trees and flowers as far as the eye can see.

We took a short drive to the parents of our host mother to meet up with two of the other singers and drive to the beach. On the way, we stopped off at a small stream where a certain species of turtles lives, and it is the only place in the world where they can be found.

In other news, the beach was a blast, but I learned several important things about Israeli beaches:

1) You must apply sunscreen every 20 seconds on Israeli Beaches

2) You must never fall asleep for 45 minutes on an Israeli beach lest you get the worst sunburn of your life

3) Don't go out too far in the water on Israeli beaches lest you get caught in a rip tide and have a near-death experience while an Israeli lifeguard swims out to save you.

That about sums up my day. Needless to say I am in an incredible amount of pain so I will be updating more extensively tomorrow. We leave for Bar'am in the morning and hopefully internet will be available.
