May 22

Lo and Behold, we have internet for at least one more day. The bad thing is that the pictures will not upload because the connection is so spotty. I'll try for morrow night, and apologize that I can't load any today.

What a day! Our first day in Slovenia did not disappoint; it is beautiful here. Lush, rolling hills covered in green, dotted with old towns, homes, churches, and vineyards. It is stunning. And the people are so wonderfully gracious and inviting.

The day began with a quick trip to Zagreb, the capitol of Croatia. We did not get very much time here at all (less than 45 minutes) because we got lost in the city and had to find our way to the city center. The only place we could park was a bus terminal that was a 30-minute walk from the city center, and so we spent over an hour walking through the slummy areas outside of the Zagreb city center. Once we arrived, however, it was well worth the schlep. Caitlin and I split off to go see the Cathedral, which was (of course) under construction.

We then passed through an open market to get to the main square, where a Renaissance Fair was in full swing. Very cool!

We left for Brezice shortly after, and when we arrived we saw the place we would be singing, and it was absolutely stunning: the Knight’s Hall in Brezice Castle.

Our room is fantastic, and the hotel has volunteered to do our laundry for free. Here are some shots from outside the hotel.

The concert tonight was one of the most enjoyable I have ever performed. The audience loved our Slovenian folk songs, and they were very appreciative of our performance.

I love Slovenia. It’s wonderful here, even if it is very warm, humid, and has a lot of mosquitoes. Tomorrow we’re off to Italy for a day, and then back to Slovenia for another two before we head to Salzburg.
