Today was a free morning in Budapest, where Ali, Jared, and I played around the tourist area by the Danube. None of us had bathing suits, (and we're a wee bit self-conscious) so we didn't get to experience the spas and bath houses. But we did have a wonderful lunch at a seafood restaurant near the Danube.
The major sight of the day was Ezstergom, a city on the northern border of Hungary and Slovakia, cradled in a stunning countryside. Here we did some impromptu singing in the third largest cathedral in all of Europe, and the largest in Hungary. The sound stayed in the air for nearly 10 seconds after we stopped singing.
On the outside of the cathedral was a bastion from where you could see the Danube and a panorama of the city.
The town square was very pretty, as well.
We sang in a lovely and nicely resonant church in Ezstergom to a rather bored audience.
In the evening we ate at another traditional Hungarian restaurant and bid farewell to our tour guide, Paul.
A little frog greeted us with some croaks on the fountain outside the Choral Castle when we arrived back "home". He was a singer, too!
Tomorrow we depart for Croatia. I'm excited to have a few days of rest and rehearsal, and free time in a smaller town. We don't have another concert for a few days, so it will be nice to rest my voice a little.
I would teach you some Hungarian, but it's very hard to type it for you because of all the additional accents and symbols required. So instead, I'll just say, "Szia!" and wish you a good night (or afternoon). I don't know what the status of my internet connection will be for the next several days, considering we will be in smaller towns, but hopefully I will still be able to blog. I will most likely not blog tomorrow, seeing as it is just a day of travel and won't have too many interesting things to say.
